Assess Your Mental Toughness with Clough’s 4 C’s

Written by Ballz Magazine

Do you have mental toughness?  Do you have what it takes? Yes? How do you know if you’ve never tried it? Because, you can only know what you’ve experienced. Luckily there’s a neat and brutally effective way to assess your mental toughness, essential for any kind of success. It’s called “4 C’s of Mental Toughness” and it’s been developed by the renowned psychologist, Dr. Peter Clough.

By using only 4 elements, one can undertake certain SWOT analysis of his strength and weaknesses – His mental toughness. So dig in and do some deep core self-analyses. And don’t worry; if it turns out that you underscored in one or few of them, there’s a simple way to work around and improve.

C #1 – CONFIDENCE

Are you a confident person? Do you trust your abilities in every occasion or do you cave in frequently?

Confidence plays the major role in any type of success so if you can describe yourself as someone who caves in rather than “enters the arena”, you have to fix it. Low self-confidence spells failure in every aspect of your life.

The best way to tackle this problem is to force yourself into situations you find to be uncomfortable for you. It’s a simple trick to boost your self-confidence and it can be as easy as haggling over the cup of coffee in your favorite coffee house. In other words, expose yourself to discomfort frequently.

Another way is to “go small”, meaning that you “celebrate” your every small victory, sort of speak. It can be anything throughout the day like the successful accomplishment of your daily errands but the most effective one is certainly the bodybuilding.

C #2 – Challenge

When facing the challenge, what do you do? How do you feel? Do feel excited and perhaps a bit afraid in your competence or do you get overwhelmed with the cortisol? Anxiety or adrenaline? What is it?

Again, the best way to deal with this — since it is the second major player of the success — is to expose yourself to challenges whenever you get the chance. There’s really no other way around this issue.

C #3 – Control

Are you in control of your life? Do you feel that you’re behind the steering wheel or you’re just a hitchhiker picked up by some crazy dude?

If you feel that you don’t have any control over your life, here’s what you should do.

Start with organizing your life. List chores, errands, plans, goals. Get your shit together in your private and personal life. That means that you keep your environment neat and perfectly organized, starting with making the bed the moment you get out of it. Or clean your working post, and keep it that way. Small things matter most because it all comes down to habits.

One habit gives birth to another and so on. It’s a domino effect and it all starts with something small and simple.

C #4 – Commitment

How committed are you? Once you set your mind onto something, do you accomplish it or drop everything in the middle of the process?

Being committed to what you do is the Alpha & Omega of a successful life. And we’re not talking only about the money here. We’re talking about relationships, goals, driving, having a great night filled with even greater sex, feasting on the best food and everything else that constitutes a fulfilled life.

Whatever you do, no matter how insignificant it may seem, you have to give your 100% until the bitter end if needed. That’s how heroes are being made. They are not born that way. They build themselves by facing impossible if needed, but sticking with it until the end of it.

These four C’s are arguably all you need to improve your sex life, your incomes, your overall efficiency in career, and everything else that demands certain “devotion.”

The best possible example is climbing the Mt. Everest. Not everyone who reaches the base camp decides to start the final climb at 4 AM. In fact, half of them stays put, simply watching those committed, who are in total control of their lives and never fail to answer the challenge just because they feel confident enough.
