How to overcome fear and achieve the success we desire.
The dictionary defines fear as “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.”
Most of the times, the things we are afraid of, are only illusions, or thoughts of what may happen in the future. It is one thing to be afraid of the giant grizzly bear that is standing in front of you showing its fangs, it is another to be afraid of the pretty girl at the bar not giving you her number. In the first case, there is a threat of immediate physical danger, the latter is no real “threat.”
Most of the times, the things we are afraid of, are only illusions, or thoughts of what may happen in the future.
The fear we are looking at in this article is an unreasonable emotion that chokes out the strength in us (ballz). We are talking fears that are fabricated in our own minds, for example, the fear of rejection. Think about how many times you have wanted to do something, like approach an attractive women you saw, but didn’t because you didn’t want to hear the word “no”. See, this is the type of fear that we want to deal with. It is this fear which is more like cowardice, that we as men have to learn to overcome, otherwise we will be forever stuck in a mediocre existence. You're not reading this because you want to be mediocre, are you?
Think about being afraid of rejection, hearing “no”, a simple two letter word. Doesn’t that sound crazy? The word itself doesn’t have any power, the only power it can have comes from the way you represent it to yourself. The only thing we must do is change the way we represent it to ourselves. Know this: there is no real success without rejection. Success is literally on the other side of rejection, it is an essential component of success. In sales for example, the best salesmen are the ones who get rejected the most, and who handle it the best. The bottom line is that the fear cannot keep you from action. How we handle “no” seperates the men with ballz from the wimps.
Success is literally on the other side of rejection, it is an essential component of success.
Asking yourself these questions can help you to change the way you represent rejection to yourself, and allow you to handle it better. What would you do if you knew you could not fail? Would that change your behaviour? Would that allow you to do just what you wanted to do? So then, what is keeping you from doing it?
Just a tiny word “no”. We have to learn to strip rejection of all of it’s power in order to be successful. Did you know that Col. Sanders (KFC) chicken recipe was rejected 1009 times before a restaurant finally accepted it. And look at the success that he found behind that rejection. So we have to take rejection and turn it into an opportunity.
Remember fear is an acronym: F.E.A.R., meaning False Evidence Appearing Real.
